New Charter Academy - Potty about School
Hurray Half Term
Well that’s what many young people say, but 40 young people on the New Charter Dream Scheme Groups couldn’t wait to get back into School.
The New Charter Academy were delighted to offer the use of the art room and kiln, so our young people from Micklehurst, Crowswood, Ridge Hill, Hazelhurst, Newton, Dukinfield and Audenshaw, some of whom were New Charter Academy students, went back to school for some pottery workshops on the Silver Springs Site.
This was very serious work, but a whole lot of fun too. The young people helped a local artist, Eddie Wolenskie, to create 4 sculptures of a dog and lots of butterflies and bug to go into the New Charter Dream Scheme Community Garden entry for this years RHS Tatton Park Show in July. Eddie showed them different techniques for modelling with clay and helped them to explore their creative side. We were all amazed at the work produced.
Of course every good sculpture need a model to get the curves and features right, so Shaun Gagie’s little dog Boo came in to pose for them. Boo is no stranger to the camera, she helped with a Dog Fouling campaign last year.
Their will be another workshop to glaze the creations when they have been dried and fired/ The young people want the dog sculptures to be used to support more awareness campaigns after the show and the butterflies and bus will be used to decorate their community gardens and neighbourhood centres.
Thanks to Paul Pritt for driving the Academy mini bus and getting the youngsters to and from their estates, also New Charter Academy and the caretakers who were very helpful. We hope to do many more workshops like this with their help.
Most of all, thanks to the young people who showed great respectful for the art room.
